Why I don't use LinkedIn

I've never kept a LinkedIn profile, and it's a deliberate choice rather than an oversight.

The platform optimizes for exactly the things I don't respect: hustle theater, humble-brags dressed up as “lessons,” fake announcements, performative vulnerability, and “broetry,” motivational platitudes chopped into one-line stanzas to please the feed. As Charlie Munger put it, show me the incentive and I'll show you the outcome: the algorithm rewards the cringe, so the cringe compounds, and real work gets buried under the performance of it. None of that has much to do with building good systems, so I'd rather put the energy into the work and let it speak. This site is my version of a profile: the projects, the trade-offs, and the numbers I can defend, in more detail than any feed would allow.

And I do value networking. I just think the real version happens in person, not in a comment thread. Rather than performing the illusion of it on LinkedIn, I'd rather show up in the room: conferences, tech talks, and local meetups, where you actually meet people and learn something.
